Winchester Says Hello to Our Newest Store

Winchester gave a warm welcome to Warrens Bakery during the grand opening of our new store .

Locals lined up to be the first to try the award-winning traditional sweet and savoury bakes, as the aroma of fresh crusty breads and delicious pastry drifted down the high street. Established in 1860, the arrival of Warrens Bakery in Winchester is the fifth franchise store outside of the South West.

With a rich heritage and a focus on provenance the opening follows recent success as we have been recognised in the Baking Industry Awards 2017, as one of the top three craft bakery businesses in the country.

To celebrate the opening in the medieval Cathedral city, the first 50 customers to pay with the newly launched Jane Austen £10 note – which features the Winchester Cathedral – were treated to a free specially designed cupcake.

A premium bakery with a focus on provenance, Warrens Bakery is recognised as the oldest Cornish pasty maker in the world, an accolade the expert team is proud to uphold. The opening will mean Winchester residents won’t have to travel far to pick up a hand-crimped taste of their iconic pasties, often enjoyed during holidays by the coast.

We are delighted to be continuing their partnership with local businessman Farhat Abbas, who has already opened shops in Eastleigh and Southampton. A successful entrepreneur in the county, Abbas believed Winchester to be the perfect setting for the next opening of the premium bakery. As a city that is steeped in history, he felt it was an ideal home for Warrens Bakery’s recipes and hand-craft skills that have been passed down generation after generation.

The new store brings 10 new jobs for local residents in the area which is expected to rise to over 100 job opportunities locally over the next few years, with a family of stores planned in and around Hampshire.

Commenting ahead of the grand opening in Winchester, Chairman of Warrens Bakery, Mark Sullivan said: “We are immensely proud of all the team have achieved this year and with the rise in popularity of craft and British baking, are delighted that we will be able to share our recipes and award-winning sweet and savoury bakes with even more customers in Winchester. With big expansion plans over the next five years, quality, provenance and hand-crafted skill are at the heart of what we do and we look forward to welcoming the Winchester store and staff to the Warrens Bakery family.”

Headed up by Master Baker, Jason Jobling (who is also Head of the Cornish Pasty Association), the team offers both traditional and innovative bakes. Most recently, we redesigned our 150-year-old Cornish pasty recipe to create a truly authentic vegan experience – with the arrival of the Warrens Bakery Original Vegan Pasty.

The Warrens Bakery range includes traditional bakes, freshly made sandwiches, savouries, scones, a recently revamped artisan bread range and more. We attribute our success not only to the provenance of our ingredients but also to our dedicated team. All of our baked goods are crafted with an enormous amount of care and attention to detail and using the finest ingredients. Many of our products are produced to traditional recipes including their Cornish pasty – we are, after all, the oldest Cornish pasty maker in the world.
