Purple Angel & Warrens Bakery Partner for Change

At Warrens Bakery, community and compassion have always been the heart of what we do – right alongside baking the perfect pasty. That’s why we’re proud to announce our partnership with the Purple Angel Dementia Awareness Campaign, a remarkable movement making real change across the UK.

Thanks to this collaboration, all 39 Warrens Bakery stores across the South West, South East and Wales are now dementia-aware spaces. Our teams have completed valuable training using Purple Angel’s “notice more” approach, empowering staff to offer thoughtful and supportive service to customers living with dementia, their carers, and anyone who may feel confused or vulnerable.

A Movement Born from Personal Experience

Purple Angel was founded by Norman McNamara, who was diagnosed with dementia at age 50 and set out to create a more understanding world after a tough experience while shopping. What began with Norman encouraging shopkeepers in Torbay to simply read two informational sheets has grown into an international movement with over 1,000 ambassadors and dedicated teams of volunteers.

Norman’s words beautifully capture the power of this mission: “Warrens Bakery’s staff will be helping thousands upon thousands of people who visit their shops… what a difference they will all be making.”

We couldn’t be prouder to be part of that impact.

Our Commitment to Inclusivity

Our Group Head of HR, Christine Stevens, reflects on the importance of this initiative, “It’s important to us to show that we care. We want every customer who walks through our doors to feel welcome and included. Purple Angel’s guidance gives us the tools to support with empathy and understanding.”

It’s a simple message, but one that echoes far and wide: at Warrens Bakery, we are now dementia aware.

Together with Purple Angel, we’re helping make the West Country, and beyond, a kinder, more conscious place. One pasty and one conversation at a time!
