Nurturing Future Talent: Aimee’s Story

At Warrens Bakery, we’re proud to champion the next generation of food professionals — and our latest initiative at Goodness marks an exciting milestone.

We’ve launched our first ever chef apprenticeship, welcoming Aimee-Leigh Riggs, a passionate 20-year-old from Plymouth, into the kitchen at our Goodness restaurant in Derriford Hospital. Aimee is undertaking a Level 2 Production Chef Apprenticeship, combining her studies at Plymouth City College with practical, on-the-job training.

Her journey began in July 2023 as a team member at Warrens Bakery. It didn’t take long for her enthusiasm and interest in kitchen operations to shine through. With the support of her manager, Aimee was guided toward a course that would help her grow her skills and confidence as a chef.

Throughout her apprenticeship, Aimee is learning key aspects of professional kitchen work — from health and hygiene regulations to portion control, waste management, and equipment maintenance. She’s already proving to be a brilliant addition to the team.

“I’m learning skills and gaining confidence every day,” says Aimee. “It’s a fantastic opportunity to progress my career, and I’m so grateful for the incredible training and support.”

As the world’s oldest Cornish pasty maker, we know the value of tradition — but we also believe in investing in the future. Aimee’s story is a testament to what happens when passion meets opportunity, and we’re excited to see where her journey takes her next.
