Traditional Tunis Cake

£10.00 Excluding Shipping

A moist, Madeira cake with a gently lemon flavour, topped with thick chocolate ganache and marzipan decorative fruit. It looks wonderfully festive and is a great alternative to traditional Christmas cake.

The origin of Tunis cake is uncertain.  A version was produced by McVities in the 1970s and 80s but it is thought the recipe actually dates back to Edwardian times.  The name could date back a lot further to the Roman Empire.   After a victory the Tunis warriors would celebrate with cake and wine, which could be why the Tunis is a celebration cake.
